Newcomer Support and Counseling Project

With support and funding from the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund led by Employment and Social Development Canada, the Canadian Red Cross Society (“CRCS”)  we were able to support and provide direct service delivery to those who are most vulnerable to the health, social and economic impacts of COVID-19.

The Project purpose is to train volunteers to target vulnerable refugees and newcomers in the GTA. Provide mental health counseling and workshops on well being and COVID19 themes as well as provide food, protective equipment and transportation to vulnerable beneficiaries specifically those living in shelters.

By Refugee for Refugee Project (BR4RP)

Is a contribution of refugees who are internationally educated health professionals to the tremendous efforts of Canadian authorities, the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Great Toronto Area Authorities in partnership with all Canadians to fight against Covid-19.

Through BR4RP Immigrants Healthcare Support Network (IHSN) team is working tirelessly to equip communities for their health improvement during this critical time. The project targets refugees and other vulnerable communities by providing them with basic, simple, and accurate information about the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in different languages.

Healthcare Support and Outreach

The objective of this program is to equip our beneficiaries with basic preparation and information to ensure clear and concise communication with their healthcare practitioners and to accompany them as they navigate the relatively complex Canadian healthcare system.

We also help with Medical Appointments Arrangement (MAA) and provide related support in terms of Translation and Accompaniment as needed.

Smart Start Program

This program targets Internationally Educated Health Professionals ( IEHPs ) trying to integrate their field of training here in Canada. IHSN mobilises and equips them with necessary tools, and provides them with the opportunity to serve in the community helping refugees and other newcomers to access quality healthcare services and get the basic health education and awareness. The program enables IEHPs to meaningfully use their skills to contribute in building healthy communities even before getting licensed in Canada. It also creates opportunities for them to interact with fellow health professionals in practice and get exposed to the Canadian healthcare system.

Health Education and Awareness

This program is designed for refugees, new immigrants and other members of the community.

The program provides our beneficiaries with  basic health education and awareness about the Canadian healthcare system  to enable them easily access quality healthcare. The program teaches Healthy Lifestyle and Disease Prevention, Nutrition, Debilitating Diseases, Mental Health, Dental Health, Drugs Abuse, Tips For A Successful Consultation with your Healthcare Provider etc.

We do this by organizing workshops, training, and information sessions for both refugees, newcomers, and front-line workers at reception centers.

Youth Mental Health and Cannabis Education Program

IHSN provides basic health information about the safety of cannabis use and mental health to youths in our communities through workshops.

Healthcare Partnership Support Program

This program aims to build capacities of existing healthcare professionals globally and equip them with resources to improve access to quality health services for communities globally. We do this through training and workshops, equipment and medical supply donation according to identified needs.
