Hani Bashir, MD

Co-Founder & Team Lead

Dr. Hani Bashir is a Medical Doctor & Epidemiologist with over 9 years of experience working in the medical and public health fields with more focus on child and women’s health. He has played an active role in the humanitarian relief sector mainly in conflicts, disasters, and emergencies. Hani’s story and journey to where he is now have been defined by self-reliance, determination, creating, and providing opportunities and options where none existed. 

Before migrating to Canada as a refugee where he co-founded IHSN, Hani worked and volunteered as a Medical Doctor and Programs Coordinator & Manager for many international and national organizations in Sudan and other countries, with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), Merciful Hands, Elbadrain Charity Organization, World Health Organization. He is a member of the  MSF-Canada Association and worked with MSF Canada nationally in internationally in many capacities. Hani is also working as Program Manager for Africa, with NeedsList which is a tech enterprise that builds software and solutions for community resilience to power faster, more sustainable humanitarian action. 

While serving people’s healthcare needs, his passion for patients and contributing toward building and improving access to healthcare services for communities grew up. Hani is committed to using his skills, knowledge, and life experiences to advocate for and to support equitable access to quality healthcare services for refugees, newcomers, and other members of the community in Canada and all over the world. Hani’s own experiences of being a refugee, along with his experiences of integration and inclusion have been the foundation of his work and advocacy.
