Paulin Rukiko Polepole, MD

Founder & Team Leader

Dr. Polepole is a Physician who worked for nearly a decade as a dedicated physician providing healthcare services and developing community health projects in D R. Congo and Rwanda where he experienced first hand the challenges to access and provide quality healthcare services before migrating to Canada.

He has served for several years as a Teratology and Toxicology Counselor for the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto. His responsibilities included providing evidence-based information and counselling to patients and their healthcare providers about the safety of medications as well as the risks of recreational substances during pregnancy and breastfeeding. He also worked as a consultant in the area of health education and promotion for different community organisation in Ontario.

Prior to coming to Canada, he was a Clinical Associate and Director of Health Projects respectively for the Institute of Human Virology of University of Maryland School of Medicine and, the P.E.A.C.E. Plan in Rwanda under the Western Rwanda HIV/AIDS and Healthcare Initiative.

He is a Founder and Team Leader of the Immigrants Healthcare Support Network (IHSN).  He is committed to using his understanding of the Canadian Healthcare System and experiences as an immigrant, a healthcare professional and a community health educator to help refugees as well as other communities globally to stay healthy and have access to the best possible quality healthcare services.

Dr. Polepole is also on the  Board of Directors at Matthew House Toronto, an organisation that helps refugees in their settlement process in Canada.
